Govt asked to preserve Islamic heritage

Pak-Uzbek Friendship Society Chairman Senator Talha Mahmood on Wednesday appreciated the Uzbek government for preserving Islamic heritage and urged the Government of Pakistan to also follow Uzbekistan in this regard.


He was speaking on the concluding session of a two-day conference on ‘Tashkent – the capital of Islamic Culture’ organised by IIUI, the Society of Asian Civilizations (SAC) and the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Islamabad, the Pakistani Daily Times reported in its staff report.

Uzbek Ambassador Oybek Arif Usman, Dr Anwar Hussain Siddiqui, Prof Dr Hasan Dani, Dr ZA Qureshi and a number of Islamabad-based ambassadors, diplomats, scholars and faculty members of the university attended the closing ceremony.

Senator Talha Mahmood paid tributes to the government and people of Uzbekistan for reviving the Islamic culture and said that there were many lessons Pakistan could learn from Uzbekistan.

Ambassador Arif Usman termed Pakistan his second home and said that the two countries shared the same faith, feelings and aspirationa. He said Uzbek people had special respect for Pakistan. Dr Anwar Hussain Siddiqui admired the leadership of Uzbekistan for being clear about their future destiny. He said Uzbekistan faced no crisis of identity, as Uzbek leadership’s association with the Muslim world was clear and committed.
