18 August 2007 13:30
Held August 7-10, the First Qinghai Lake International Poetry Festival attracted more than 200 poets and embassy delegates from more than 34 countries, Shinesefolkculture.com wrote.
Organized by the Qinghai Province government and The Poetry Institute of China, the festival featured a cultural summit forum, a night of poetry on Qinghai Lake, and a concert entitled "Poetic Qinghai and Harmonious World." Participants included Polish poet Marek Wawrzkiewicz, Egyptian poet Ahmed Abdul Mueti Hegazy, Uzbekistanian poet Fakhriddin Nizamov and Chinese poets Lei Shuyan, and Lin Mang.
The opening ceremony on August 7 in Xining city was followed by a forum entitled "Men and Nature in Harmony," in which more than 30 poets shared their views on the coexistence of mankind and nature.
From August 8-9, the poets visited three Tibetan autonomous prefectures, and each was encouraged to write a poem longer than 50 lines on the scenery and changes in Qinghai Lake.
The closing ceremony was held August 10 in Xining and featured many famous artists. Sponsored by CCTV and Qinghai TV, the concert had four parts: "Blue River," "Silver Moonlight," "Golden Field," and "Bright Sun."
The plan is to hold the festival bi-annually from now on.
